Personal Finance Tricks That Will Transform Your Budget

Most people don’t like thinking about their finances. If you know what to do, however, thinking about how to improve your finances can be exciting and even, fun! Learn some simple tips for financial management, so that you can improve your finances and enjoy yourself while you do it.

Even if you are young, start putting money regularly into a retirement account. A small investment at a young age can grow into a large sum by the time retirement comes around. When you are young, you have time on your side. You will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly your money will compound.

One way to improve your finances is to refuse to pay full price for anything. Drop your loyalty to specific brands and purchase items which you have coupons for. If you always buy Purina Cat Chow, but this week’s online coupons has a coupon for Fancy Feast, you might be able to get the Fancy Feast for less than the Cat Chow for once.

Try using cash to pay for all of your purchases next week. When you buy goods with cash instead of plastic credits cards, it is easier to see exactly how much money you are parting with. Also, if you don’t have a credit card on your person you can avoid impulse buys.

One of the things that you can do with your money is to invest in a CD, or certificate of deposit. This investment will give you the choice of how much you want to invest with the time frame you desire, allowing you to take advantage of higher interest rates to boost your income.

Baby sitting can be a way to earn money that allows you to stay in a comfortable environment the whole time. You must have a good image for people to trust you with their home and more importantly, their children. However, if you do a good job, you can get recommended to others and further your personal finances.

Keep track of your actions, and of whether they were successful or not. Go back over your notes and think about how you could have avoided a failure, or realize what you did right. Consider yourself as a student who constantly has to learn new things in order to improve.

Allow yourself a weekly cash allowance to prevent splurging your savings wastefully. You can use this allowance and treat yourself to dining out or a new pair of shoes, and then when the money is gone, that’s it. Being on a budget doesn’t have to mean deprivation. So, go ahead and enjoy a meal out, or some other small expense once in a while.

If you have your debt spread into many different places, it may be helpful to ask a bank for a consolidation loan which pays off all of your smaller debts and acts as one big loan with one monthly payment. Make sure to do the math and determine whether this really will save you money though, and always shop around.

Write all of your expenses down by category. For example, putting all utility bills in one category and credit card bills in another. This will help you get organized and prioritize your bills. This will also be helpful in finding what spending you should cut back on to save money.

If you want to get your personal finances under control, try freezing your credit cards. Credit cards are good for emergencies, but are often used to buy things we can’t afford. Avoid this spur of the moment spending by literally freezing your card. Put it in a container of water and freeze it. You can still use your card in an emergency, but having to thaw out the credit card will give you time to rethink those impulse buys that lead to more debt.

If you use a payday loan or cash advance option, remember to deduct the amount of the loan or advance, plus charges, from your check ledger balance immediately. Even though, this may throw your written balance into negative numbers, it will stand as a constant reminder to you that you must be sure that amount is accounted for when your next direct deposit comes through.

“Reward” credit cards might not be a good deal. Unless you pay off your balance in full each month, the higher interest rates and fees on “reward” cards might offset the value of the rewards you earn. If you usually carry a balance, you’ll save money by using a low-interest card instead.

As you can see, finances don’t have to be boring or frustrating. You can enjoy dealing with finances now that you know what you are doing. Choose your favorite tips from the ones you just read, so that you can begin improving your finances. Don’t forget to get excited about what you’re saving!
